There are some sessions that stay with you long after the sun goes down. Spending the morning on a houseboat on the Hawkesbury River with Emma and her boy, Cash, to capture a motherhood photo session was one of them. Emma is someone I’ve admired since the very start of my photography journey, so getting to capture her world was a true honour.
The air was still, and the vibe was pure 70s nostalgia. We spent the morning drifting, leaning into that free-spirited energy that Emma carries so naturally. Cash was in his element the entire time, mostly barefoot and blissfully unbothered by clothes, just as a river childhood should be.
We watched them make music together; Emma on her guitar and Cash following along on his ukelele. It was loud, fun and completely authentic. Just the two of them being exactly who they are in their true environment.
This houseboat motherhood photo session was a dream realized. It reminded me why I started shooting in the first place: to document that wild, hippie-hearted connection that feels more like magic than a photoshoot. A day on the river I won’t soon forget.
