As mums, we are almost always the ones behind the lens. We’re the family’s official memory keepers, snapping away at every messy mealtime, every growth spurt, and every school event. But how often do we actually get photos with our little ones?
That’s exactly why I started By Joey Motherhood Mini sessions every year. I wanted to give mums in the Hawkesbury a chance to put down the phone, step in front of the camera, and actually be part of the memory with their kids.
Looking back at the magic.
Going through the archives to put this post together has been such a trip. Each gallery tells its own story, and looking back at the last few years, I’m so struck by the bond I see in every single session.
There’s a special kind of magic that happens in these minis. It’s in the quiet cuddles, the cheekiest of giggles, and the way a toddler’s hand instinctively finds yours. These aren’t just “nice photos” – they’re a moment in time of your family’s memories. Seeing your babies grow up in front of my lens is one of my greatest joys as a photographer.
More than just a photoshoot.
One of my favourite things is hearing from you guys a year or two later. You tell me how these photos have ended up as prints on the wall or tucked into the first pages of a childhood album.
But beyond the final images, these sessions are really about carving out time to just be. Life is busy, and the years fly by faster than we’d like. These minis are designed to be super relaxed and fun – a bit of a bonding session where you can just focus on your kids while I do the work.
A quick note to all the mums: Your kids won’t care if your hair was perfectly done or if you were tired that day. When they look at these photos in twenty years, they’ll just see the way you looked at them. They’ll see your smile and feel the safety of your hug. That’s the real legacy here.
A glimpse into the past.
Have a scroll through some of my favourite moments from the last 5 years of Motherhood Mini sessions. If you want to see more of how a full session looks and how we can capture you and your kids in your own home, feel free to have a wander through my other galleries.
