A Morning with the Masterfields

Storyteller

There is a specific kind of magic found in a “normal” day. As a Hawkesbury family photographer, my favourite stories to tell aren’t the ones with perfectly pressed shirts and rigid poses; they are the ones that unfold naturally between the walls of a family home and the paths of a local neighbourhood.

We started the morning exactly where life happens – at home. There’s something so grounding about capturing kids in their element, from backyard games to convincing Mum and Dad to jump into the play. It wasn’t about “looking at the camera”; it was about looking at each other.

From Babycinos to Bike Rides

Part of the beauty of a storyteller session is documenting the rituals that usually go unrecorded. We followed their usual walking route, kids tucked into the pram, for a pitstop at their local cafe. Watching the little ones treat their babycinos like the finest brew in the Hawkesbury is a core memory in the making.

Afterward, we hit the local fields. This is their “spot” – the place where bikes are raced and the playground is conquered. It’s a backdrop that means something to them, making the photos feel like home.

Dancing Through the Downpour

Just as we reached the furthest point from home, the clouds broke. Instead of the usual dash for cover, this family chose to lean in. We were a long walk from home, so we did the only logical thing: we embraced the rain.

There is a quiet, wild joy in dancing through a downpour. Watching the kids splash without worry and the parents let go of the “plan” was a beautiful reminder of why I love being a Hawkesbury family photographer. Sometimes, the best memories aren’t the ones you schedule – they’re the ones you splash through.
